I was inspired by the naturally occurring Voronoi pattern found in onion skins, tree canopies, and even giraffe coats. I wanted to bring this natural elegance into the home. I decided to represent the parametric design in a table lamp that illuminates the beautiful design and can double as a night stand. My main considerations were easy assembly, lightweight, and ambiance.

Fabrication

  • Material sourcing

    I knew that this project would be material-intensive because of the CNC requirements. To address this, I used only scrap wood when building

  • Wood prep

    To make one continuous design, I glued many sheets of scrap plywood together to maximize material surface area

  • CNC Router

    Utilizing the CNC, the Voronoi pattern was cut out in less than an hour, and was then sanded and finished
